Rooted in compassion. Driven by the mission to uplift and empower tribal communities.
Jan Kalyan Trust (JKT) is a grassroots non-governmental organization based in Mahad Taluka, Raigad District, Maharashtra. We are dedicated to the holistic development of Kathkari tribal communities and other socio-economically disadvantaged groups.
Over nearly two decades, we have worked tirelessly to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and mainstream development — ensuring every individual has access to education, sustainable livelihoods, and a dignified life.
To empower Kathkari tribal communities through sustainable education, livelihood programs, and community-driven development, fostering self-reliance and dignity.
A society where every tribal community thrives with equal access to opportunities, education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods — free from marginalization.
Compassion, transparency, community ownership, sustainability, and inclusivity guide every initiative we undertake for tribal welfare.
In a region where educational opportunities were scarce and tribal families migrated seasonally for survival, Jankalyan Trust established its Boarding Home with just 5 students — providing a stable environment for children to receive care, education, and hope for a better future.
The Trust actively reached out to parents and children in remote tribal settlements, encouraging them to embrace education and join the boarding program. Word spread through communities as the positive impact of the initiative became undeniable.
There was a great landslide and flood, and JKT helped in building houses for 3 entire villages (Dasgaon, Kurla, Juhi)
A remarkable milestone was reached — children of former boarders began enrolling at the Boarding Home. This generational trust reflected the deep confidence families had placed in the institution, validating decades of dedicated service.
At its peak, the Boarding Home accommodated nearly 170 students in a single year, becoming a vital center for learning, holistic development, and personal growth. Over 1,000 students have since completed their journey with us.
A big flood that drowned the entire Mahad – JKT reached out to the Mahad and Polatpur Talukas with relief and rehabilitation
Jankalyan Trust proudly celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the Boarding Home, marking 25 years of dedicated service. More than 300 former students, supporters, and well-wishers gathered for a memorable reunion celebrating the institution's enduring impact on countless lives.
Today, our alumni serve society in diverse fields — MIDC industries, social work, banking, teaching, entrepreneurship, and skilled trades. Some have secured opportunities abroad, including in the USA and Dubai. Their achievements are a testament to the transformative power of education.
Currently, the Boarding Home provides a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for 50 children from tribal and weaker socio-economic backgrounds. Beyond academics, we focus on holistic development, character formation, life skills, and values — empowering children to become confident, responsible, and self-reliant individuals.
Dedicated individuals driving change in tribal communities every single day.
